Cooks, the Carlton School of Food
Carlton Towers, South Yorkshire
Cooks at Carlton offers Yorkshire cookery courses with a difference. Held at the magnificent stately home of family members of the Duke of Norfolk, Carlton Towers, the classes take place in an atmosphere that is redolent of Downton Abbey.
It’s not just the regal setting that sets Cooks apart though (although that obviously helps). Participants are encouraged to really discover food, not just cook it.
You can learn how to grow, cook, photograph and write about food, as well as how to slice, dice and a host of other cooking techniques. There’s the chance to bake, butcher, forage and preserve food, all over a range of courses from master chefs, butches, bakers, and restaurateurs. Some are even hosted by photographers, artists and painters.
Courses can be tailor-made for groups of friends, hen parties and special occasions… and you can take the experience even further with the chance to stay in one or more of the 16 elegant rooms that allow visitors to drape themselves in the kind of opulence normally only enjoyed by the lords and ladies of the manor.
The top chefs that host the courses include national seafood chef of the year Rob Green, award-winning and Michelin-trained French chef Lionel Strub, and celebrity Malaysian chef Norman Musa.
