Sutton Bank Bikes

Thirsk, North Yorkshire

See some of the best views in the country by cycling the North York Moors national park. Explore its deep valleys and heather-topped moorland hills with the freedom of a mountain bike.

Sutton Bank Bikes is a bike shop that also offers instruction and guided tours in spectacular locations with breathtaking 360-degree views of the North York Moors national park.

Ride the challenging ‘blue’ Fort and more demanding ‘red’ Paradise trails for a true off-road adventure.

Sutton Bank Bikes offers rides with hairpin bends and gradients of 1 in 4, which means this is an ideal spot for keen bikers.

The view from the top of Sutton Bank was called the ‘finest in England’ by famed vet James Herriott – and there’s no more satisfactory way to see it than after a challenging ride to the top.

It’s not all about adrenalin adventures either. There’s a three-mile ‘green’ Cliff Trail, which is great for families and beginners. You can also test new-found cycling skills in the ‘skills area’.

You can bring your own bike and simply pick up a map, or you can hire one for the day for the selection on offer at the shop.

Parking, toilets and a café can be found at the National Park Centre, which is also to Sutton Bank Bikes service centre and bike wash. They also offer bike maintenance courses and guided rides.

Cycle trails are a mix of natural and man-made trails. Many of them use existing bridleways that are shared with walkers and horse riders, so there may be some gates to cross.

Sutton Bank Bikes can tailor-make a ride that suits your needs and will ensure that you leave no stone unturned.

Please note that a photo ID is required to hire bikes.
